On January 15, 2025, S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MEITY), launched the second edition of the Cyber Security Grand Challenge (CSGC 2.0). The initiative, implemented by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP), aims to enhance India's cybersecurity capabilities and prepare for a secure digital future.
- The total prize money for CSGC 2.0 has been significantly increased to ₹6.85 crores, compared to ₹3.2 crores in its first edition.

Indichip Semiconductors to Set Up India's First Private Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility in Andhra Pradesh.
In January 2025, Indichip Semiconductors Limited, headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP), in partnership with its Joint Venture (JV) partner Yitoa Micro Technology Limited (YMTL) from Japan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) to establish India’s first private semiconductor manufacturing facility at the Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub in Kurnool, AP.
- The project involves an investment exceeding Rs 14,000 crores.

Google Cloud and Uttar Pradesh (UP) have partnered to launch the Open Network for Agriculture.
In January 2025, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google Cloud (India) to launch the UP Open Network for Agriculture (UPONA), powered by Gemini and enabled by Beacon.
- This open and decentralized network will provide millions of farmers with easy access to services like advice, credit, machinery, and market links to sell their produce.
- This initiative is India’s first state-level project using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform agriculture.

(i) The network is created as a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) using Google Cloud’s DPI-in-a-box and the Beckn Protocol, an open standard that makes it easy to find and access products and services.
(ii) This is an important step toward doubling farmers' income in UP. It provides quick and accurate information on weather and market prices, using data from weather stations in nearly every tehsil.

GSEDP has secured a loan of Rs 21.28 billion from IREDA for the Smart Meter Project in Uttar Pradesh (UP).
On January 9, 2025, GMR Smart Electricity Distribution (GSEDPL), a company based in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and a subsidiary of Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao (GMR) Power and Urban Infra (GPUIL), received approval for a Rs 21.28 billion (USD 247.66 million) loan from the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA).
- This loan will be used to install 7.57 million smart meters across UP as part of a larger project worth Rs 34.67 billion (USD 403.75 million).
- GSEDPL will operate and maintain these smart meters under a 10-year contract with the local electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs).
- The project will cover five areas: Varanasi, Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Agra, and Aligarh, and will be managed by two state-owned DISCOMs: Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam (PuVNL) and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam (DVVNL).

(i) The project will be carried out through three Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs): GMR Agra Smart Meters Limited, GMR Kashi Smart Meters Limited, and GMR Triveni Smart Meters Limited.

The Ram Temple project in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) has recently been awarded the prestigious 'Sword of Honour' by the British Safety Council (BSC). This award recognizes the project's exceptional safety management practices. The construction is being carried out by Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T).
- The British Safety Council (BSC) conducts a thorough audit of the project's safety processes and practices. This includes an on-site assessment to evaluate how well safety is managed during construction.
- The Sword of Honour is only given to projects with a five-star safety rating, setting a high standard for safety management in the construction industry. It reflects the project's dedication to maintaining top-notch safety standards throughout its development.
- The Ram Temple is being built in the traditional Nagar architectural style. It measures 380 feet in length (east-west) and 250 feet in width, with a height of 161 feet. The temple will have 392 pillars and 44 doors, with an impressive east-facing entrance featuring 32 steps.

(i) The temple is being constructed using around 15 lakh cubic feet of Bansi Paharpur stone from Rajasthan. The marble cladding adds to its beauty, making it a significant architectural marvel.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana - Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh Lead in Rooftop Solar Installations.
According to the data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in December 2024, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh (UP) have emerged as the top three states with the highest number of rooftop solar installations under the 'Prime Minister - Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY).'
- Gujarat has topped the list with 2,86,545 rooftop solar installations, followed by Maharashtra with 1,26,344 installations, and Uttar Pradesh securing the third spot with 53,423 installations.
Main Point :-
(i) As of December 9, 2024, over 6.79 lakh rooftop solar installations have been completed since the launch of the scheme in February 2024. This includes over 5.38 lakh individual residential units and around 1.41 lakh households through installations in residential welfare associations.
(ii) So far, a total of 1.45 crore registrations and 26.38 lakh applications have been registered on the National Portal of the scheme, and subsidies have been disbursed to 3.66 lakh applicants within 15 to 21 days.

IIT Guwahati, IIT Mandi, and CSTEP Bengaluru Release District-Level Climate Risk Assessment Report
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, IIT Mandi, and the Centre for Study of Science, Technology, and Policy (CSTEP) Bengaluru released a comprehensive report titled "District-Level Climate Risk Assessment for India: Mapping Flood and Drought Risks Using IPCC Framework" on December 13, 2024. The report, supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), provides a detailed analysis of district-level climate risks in India.
The report identifies 51 districts with very high flood risk and 118 districts with high flood risk, with vulnerable regions including Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Odisha, and Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, 91 districts face very high drought risk, with Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Maharashtra being the most affected. Alarmingly, 11 districts, including Patna (Bihar), Alappuzha (Kerala), and Kendrapara (Odisha), are highly vulnerable to both floods and droughts.
The report emphasizes the urgent need for tailored, region-specific adaptation strategies to enhance resilience and mitigate the impacts of climate change. It also highlights the importance of collective efforts and innovative frameworks to address climate challenges.

Tata Power Allocates Rs 500 Cr for Renewable Energy Projects at Noida International Airport.
Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Tata Power Company Limited has partnered with Uttar Pradesh based Noida International Airport (NIA) to invest Rs 550 crore (USD 66 million) to develop solar and wind power capacities and to supply clean energy to NIA.
- Tata Power and NIA have signed two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in New Delhi (Delhi) in the presence of Sanjay Banga, President of Transmission and Distribution at Tata Power, and Christoph Schnellmann, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Noida International Airport.
- Under this partnership, Tata Power's arm Tata Power Trading Company Ltd (TPTCL) will supply 10.8 Megawatt (MW) of wind power to the airport with secured assets from Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL).
