FC Goa Clinches Kalinga Super Cup 2025 Title After Defeating Jamshedpur FC.

In May 2025, Football Club (FC) Goa (FCG) defeated Jamshedpur FC (JFC) 3-0 in the final match of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to secure their second title in the tournament’s history. With this win, FC Goa became the first club to win the Kalinga Super Cup twice, having previously clinched the title in 2019.


      - The Kalinga Super Cup is India’s premier domestic knockout football tournament, organized by the New Delhi-based All India Football Federation (AIFF). The 2025 win marked FC Goa’s first title under head coach Manolo MΓ‘rquez, concluding his term with a perfect finish.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Spanish midfielder Borja Herrera delivered an outstanding performance for FC Goa, scoring a brace with goals in the 23rd and 51st minutes. Serbian forward Dejan Drazic added to the tally with a third goal in the 71st minute, sealing a dominant 3-0 victory over Jamshedpur FC in the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 final.

      (ii) For his stellar performance, Borja Herrera was awarded the β€˜Player of the Match’. With this triumph, FC Goa qualified for the AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) Playoffs, marking their return to continental football after 4 years.

International Day of Human Space Flight Observed on April 12, 2025.

The United Nations (UN)’s International Day of Human Space Flight is annually observed across the globe on April 12 to commemorate the beginning of the human space era and emphasize the importance of space science and technology in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


      - On April 7, 2011, the UN General Assembly (UNGA), headquartered in New York, United States of America (USA), adopted the resolution A/RES/65/271 declaring April 12 to be observed every year as the International Day of Human Space Flight. The first-ever observance took place on April 12, 2011.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) To celebrate the first International Day of Human Space Flight, the UN Postal Administration (UNPA), based in New York, issued a special series of commemorative stamps at its offices in New York (USA), Geneva (Switzerland), and Vienna (Austria).

      (ii) The collection included a stamp featuring Yuri Gagarin, the first human to journey into outer space.

(iii) The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), headquartered in Vienna, Austria, is the UN entity responsible for promoting international cooperation in the peaceful use of outer space.

First Ever PAI Baseline Report for FY23 Shows Gujarat and Telangana Leading as Front Runners.

In April 2025, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) launched the first-ever β€˜Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) baseline report’ for the Financial Year 2022-23 (FY23), aimed at localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).


      - This initiative serves as a transformative tool to evaluate the performance of over 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats (GPs) across India using a comprehensive and evidence-based framework aligned with the SDG 2030 Agenda.


      - The Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) is a composite index designed to assess Panchayat performance based on 9 themes under the Localized SDGs (LSDGs), such as Good Governance, Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihoods, among others.

     

Main Point :-   (i) According to the 2022-23 PAI data, out of 2,55,699 GPs, a total of 2,16,285 GPs submitted validated data. Among them, 699 (0.3%) Panchayats were identified as Front Runners.

      (ii) Gujarat led the rankings with 346 Gram Panchayats recognized as Front Runners, followed by Telangana with 270 Gram Panchayats in the same category.

GSL and IIT Hyderabad Join Forces to Revolutionize Shipbuilding Using AI and Digital Twin Tech.

In April 2025, Goa-based Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and Hyderabad (Telangana)-based Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Twin technologies into India's maritime sector.


      - The collaboration also includes Hyderabad-based Neer Interactive Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and Andhra Mahila Sabha (AMS) Arts and Science College, with the objective of enhancing efficiency, security, and sustainability in shipbuilding processes.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The MoU leverages Geospatial AI, Object Detection AI, Generative AI, and Digital Twin solutions to optimize vessel design, enhance shipyard security, and enable 360-degree surveillance systems. It aligns with Industry 4.0 and Quality 4.0 (QA 4.0) principles to modernize shipbuilding, reduce operational costs, and set new global benchmarks.

      (ii) The Center for Geospatial AI and Digital Twins (CGDT) at IIT-H, led by Director Prof. B.S. Murty, will be responsible for developing advanced Geospatial Digital Twin models to build virtual replicas of shipbuilding environments for testing and innovation.

(iii) This collaboration marks the launch of Asia’s first AI-driven maritime security project and positions India as a global frontrunner in AI-powered maritime technology, significantly boosting indigenous technological expertise and innovation in the shipbuilding sector.

GSL Launches Second Frigate 'Tavasya' Under Project 1135.6 for Indian Navy.

On March 22, 2025, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a leading defense shipyard based in Goa, India, launched 'Tavasya', the second frigate of Project 1135.6 (Vard 1259). This frigate was built with 56% indigenous content, a significant improvement from the 25% indigenization seen in its foreign-built counterparts.


      - The frigate is designed for multi-role operations, including air, surface, and subsurface combat, enhancing the Indian Navy's (IN) strength and dominance in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).


      - This launch aligns with India’s goal of achieving β‚Ή50,000 crores in defense exports by 2029 and reinforces the country’s commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

      - Tavasya, named after Bhima's mace in the Mahabharata, symbolizes the Indian Navy's strength. The frigate measures 124.8m in length, 15.2m in width, and has a 4.5m draught, with a displacement of 3,600 tons and a top speed of 28 knots. It features stealth capabilities, BrahMos missile systems, torpedo launchers, and advanced sonar and sensor systems, enhancing its combat effectiveness.

Main Point :-   (i) In October 2016, India and Russia signed an Inter-Governmental Agreement (IGA) for four Krivak-class stealth frigates. Two were built in Russia and imported for USD 1 billion, while the remaining two are being constructed in India by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) under a USD 500 million technology transfer agreement with ROSOBORONEXPORT (Russia) for materials and design assistance.

      (ii) INS Tushil, the first Russian-built frigate, was commissioned on December 9, 2024, while INS Tamal, the second, is undergoing trials and is expected to be commissioned by June 2025.

(iii) On January 25, 2019, the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India (GoI) signed a contract with GSL for the construction of two Project 1135.6 frigates. The first indigenous frigate, Triput, was launched on July 23, 2024, followed by Tavasya as the second.

(iii) Together, they combine solid underwriting practices with advanced credit evaluation tools to provide efficient credit solutions.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy Launches India’s First Critical Minerals Exploration Licence Auction in Goa.

In March 2025, Union Minister Gangapuram (G) Kishan Reddy, Ministry of Mines (MoM) and Ministry of Coal (MoC), launched India's first-ever auction of Exploration Licences (ELs) for 13 exploration blocks for critical minerals. The event was held in Dona Paula, Panaji, Goa, in the presence of Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister (CM) of Goa.


      - For the initial phase, licenses will be auctioned for exploration of critical minerals such as Rare Earth Elements (REE), Zinc (Zn), Diamond, Copper (Cu), and Platinum Group Elements (PGE) through a transparent online bidding process.


      - The event also featured a roadshow on the 5th Tranche of Critical Mineral Blocks and the launch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hackathon 2025, a Mineral Exploration Hackathon focused on 'Mineral Targeting Using AI'.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The exploration access will be granted exclusively to private entities, allowing them to explore up to 1,000 square meters per licence, which will accelerate mineral exploration, boost private sector participation, and enhance India's mineral security and self-reliance in critical minerals.

      (ii) ELs were introduced through the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Amendment Act, 2023, enabling private participation in reconnaissance and prospecting of 29 critical and deep-seated minerals, including Lithium (Li), Copper (Cu), Cobalt (Co), Gold (Au), and Silver (Ag), as listed in the new 7th Schedule of the Act.

(iii) In October 2024, the Government of India (GoI) issued an order under Section 20A of the MMDR Act, 2023, to conduct the EL auction process.

"DBT and GOAS Sign MoU Under BioE3 Policy to Enhance Centre-State Collaboration".

On March 12, 2025, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), Government of India (GoI), and the Government of Assam (GoAS) formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi (Delhi) to establish a Centre-State partnership under the BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) Policy.


      - This marks the first Centre-State partnership under the BioE3 framework, aiming to enhance high-performance bio-manufacturing and foster a sustainable biotechnology ecosystem in Assam.


      - The BioE3 Policy was approved by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, on August 24, 2024, envisioning India as a global leader in bio-based innovations.

      - This collaboration leverages Assam’s rich biodiversity and agricultural strengths to build a strong bio-manufacturing sector.

Main Point :-   (i) The policy emphasizes sustainable bio-manufacturing across multiple sectors, including bio-based chemicals, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), biopolymers, enzymes, climate-resilient agriculture, functional foods, smart proteins, carbon capture and utilization, precision bio-therapeutics (such as cell and gene therapy, messenger Ribonucleic Acid (mRNA) therapeutics, and monoclonal antibodies), and advanced marine and space research.

      (ii) It also focuses on developing Bio-Enablers such as bio-foundries, bio-manufacturing hubs, and Bio-Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms.

(iii) The MoU establishes a strategic collaboration where DBT will provide guidance and facilitate partnerships, while the Assam Government will spearhead initiatives by setting up a State BioE3 Cell and formulating the Assam BioE3 Action Plan.

Rentokil Initial Hygiene Attains Carbon Neutrality for 2024 in India.

In March 2025, Mumbai (Maharashtra)-based Rentokil Initial Hygiene Private Limited, a global leader in hygiene services and a part of the United Kingdom-based Rentokil Initial Plc, announced that it has achieved carbon neutrality for the year 2024. The company achieved this milestone through efforts in recycling, clean energy, eco-conscious logistics, and digital efficiency, aligning with its goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2040.


      - This achievement includes Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from energy use), with notable progress in Scope 3 (indirect emissions across the value chain).


      - Recycled over 58% of used batteries, cutting down 2.69 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (COβ‚‚e) emissions.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Transitioned to Low-Temperature Thermal Destruction (LTTD) technology, converting waste into eco-friendly materials like bricks and pots, thus avoiding 21.14 tons of COβ‚‚e from sanitary waste.

      (ii) Installed 310 LED lights across company facilities, reducing energy use by 13,020 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and cutting 9 tons of COβ‚‚e emissions.

(iii) Moved to paperless processes, saving 792 kilograms (kg) of paper and reducing 9 tons of COβ‚‚e emissions.

GoI’s PM-SYM Yojana Strengthens Financial Security for Millions of Unorganised Workers.

Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) Yojana is a significant initiative launched by the Government of India (GoI) to provide financial security to millions of unorganised workers in India. It is a part of the Government’s broader social security efforts and supports the goal of providing universal pension coverage for workers in the unorganised sector.


      - The scheme is specifically designed for workers in the unorganised sectors, which contribute 50% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).


      - It is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme, aimed at offering social security to unorganised workers.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The scheme ensures a minimum pension of Rs 3,000 per month after the age of 60 for workers who are part of the unorganised sector and earn up to Rs 15,000 per month.

      (ii) The scheme is overseen by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E), in collaboration with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and Common Services Centres e-Governance Services India Limited (CSC SPV), to ensure smooth implementation.

(iii) As of December 31, 2024, more than 30.51 crore unorganised workers were registered on the e-Shram portal.

Goa's Mopa Airport Becomes the First in India to Receive the 'Sarvashrestha Suraksha Puraskaar'.

In January 2025, Goa's Manohar International Airport (GOX), also known as Mopa Airport, became the first airport in India to receive the "Sarvashrestha Suraksha Puraskar (Golden Trophy)" at the National Safety Council of India (NSCI) Safety Awards 2024 in the 'Service Sector' category, held in Mumbai, Maharashtra.


      - Developed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited, under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, the airport was evaluated based on safety performance, statistics, commitments, awareness, training, and ground innovations.


      - The Sarvashrestha Suraksha Puraskar is awarded by the NSCI, established by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E), Government of India (GoI), to recognize exemplary Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) performance.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The award acknowledges efforts in reducing workplace injuries, implementing best OSH practices, and promoting continuous improvements.

      (ii) The airport achieved zero fatal, non-fatal, and permanent disability incidents, contributing to its success in securing the award.

(iii) The airport is named after Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar, the former Union Minister of Defence (MoD) and Chief Minister (CM) of Goa.

UNESCAP Releases Asia and Pacific SDG Progress Report 2025.

In February 2025, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) published the report titled "Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report: Engaging Communities to Close the Evidence Gap 2025," providing a comprehensive assessment of progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their 169 targets in the Asia-Pacific region.


      - The report emphasizes the importance of engaging communities to close the evidence gap, stressing the need for accurate data collection to support decision-making.


      - The Asia-Pacific SDG Progress Report 2025 highlights that urgent action is still required to achieve the 17 SDGs by the 2030 Agenda.

      - On 22 September 2024, global leaders adopted the Pact for the Future at the Summit of the Future, reaffirming their commitment to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Main Point :-   (i) The report highlights significant progress in the Asia-Pacific region on SDGs, including reducing income poverty (SDG 1), addressing undernourishment (SDG 2), supporting small-scale industries (SDG 9), reducing hazardous waste (SDG 12), mitigating land degradation (SDG 15), and combating human trafficking and intentional homicide (SDG 16).

      (ii) Additionally, the availability of SDG data has increased to 54%.

Renowned classical singer Pandit Prabhakar Karekar has passed away.

In February 2025, renowned Hindustani classical singer Pandit Prabhakar Karekar passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra, at the age of 80. He was born in 1944 in Lingakaden, Fatorda (which was known as Mhadd back then) in Goa.


      - He was famous for his soulful singing, particularly in devotional songs like Bolava Vithal Pahava Vithal and Vakratund Mahakay.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Apart from being a remarkable performer, Pandit Prabhakar Karekar was also a dedicated teacher. He was a graded artist with All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD), which helped him reach a wide audience across the country.

      (ii) Prabhakar Karekar was the founder and Chairman of the Swarprabha Trust.

(iii) Over the course of his career, he received many prestigious awards, including the Tansen Samman, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and Gomant Vibhushan Award, all recognizing his significant contributions to classical music.

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Navin Chawla Passes Away.

On February 1, 2025, former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Navin Chawla, passed away at the age of 79 in New Delhi. Born on July 30, 1945, in New Delhi, Chawla was a retired 1969-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.


      - Chawla served as Election Commissioner from May 16, 2005, to April 20, 2009, and as CEC from April 2009 to July 2010. He oversaw the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and implemented key reforms, including the introduction of a third-gender voting category.


      - He received the Mazzini Award from the Government of Italy in 2005 for strengthening relations between India and Italy. In 2014, he was honored with the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai Award for his exemplary work in election processes in India.

     

Main Point :-   (i) In 1992, he authored the "Authorized Biography of Mother Teresa," which was later translated into 14 languages both in India and internationally.

      (ii) Chawla’s contributions in both administrative and electoral processes have left a lasting impact on the nation.

National e-Governance Division (NeGD) Introduces 'Entity Locker' for Streamlined Business Document Management.

In January 2025, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), introduced the 'Entity Locker.' This modern digital platform aims to simplify how businesses manage and verify their documents while aligning with India's Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and the Union Budget 2024-25's goals of advancing digital governance and streamlining business processes.


      - The Entity Locker is a secure cloud-based platform for businesses, including MSMEs, startups, trusts, and corporations, offering streamlined storage, sharing, and verification of documents to reduce delays and operational challenges.


      - The platform integrates seamlessly with critical systems like the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), and Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). This integration reduces delays and enhances efficiency in processes like vendor verification, procurement, and loan applications for MSMEs.

      - Entity Locker supports multiple use cases, such as vendor verification, compliance documentation for the food industry under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and corporate filings like annual returns. It significantly simplifies compliance processes and improves operational efficiency.

Main Point :-   (i) The platform ensures real-time document verification by integrating with government databases. It provides 10 gigabytes (GB) of encrypted cloud storage for secure document management and enables authentication using legally valid digital signatures. Aadhaar-based authentication ensures secure and accountable access to sensitive information.

      (ii) Built-in features of Entity Locker simplify regulatory reporting and compliance by offering tools to track document-related activities, enhancing transparency and accountability for businesses and organizations.

(iii) Individuals do not have direct access to Entity Locker but can connect their personal accounts to their organization’s account to manage and access digital documents. The platform emphasizes user consent for data sharing and ensures a secure and accountable environment for document management.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal Launches National Turmeric Board and Appoints Palle Ganga Reddy as Chairman.

In January 2025, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), launched the National Turmeric Board (NTB) in New Delhi, with the goal of boosting the turmeric industry in India.


      - Palle Ganga Reddy has been appointed as the first Chairperson of the Board, and its headquarters have been established in Nizamabad, Telangana.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The NTB will operate under the Department of Commerce (DoC), MoC&I.

      (ii) The board will include representatives from various departments, such as the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy); Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoC&F); Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), and the Department of Commerce, MoC&I.

(iii) The board will provide leadership and coordinate with other government departments/agencies to foster the growth and development of the turmeric sector in India.

The World Bank has approved a funding of USD 35 million to improve education in Meghalaya.

On January 7, 2025, the World Bank's (WB) Board of Executive Directors approved a loan of USD 35 million for the "Meghalaya Multisectoral Project for Adolescent Wellbeing, Empowerment and Resilience" (MPOWER). The goal of this project is to improve education quality in Meghalaya. It aims to support the state's youth by enhancing resources and infrastructure.


      - The loan comes from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), which is part of the World Bank Group. The loan has a 15-year term, with a 5-year grace period before repayments begin.


      - The project aims to empower 500,000 adolescents by helping them transition from school to work. It will focus on reducing school dropouts, improving learning outcomes, and providing support for finding jobs and starting businesses.

      - The project is inspired by similar initiatives in Jharkhand and successful World Bank projects in Tanzania and Bangladesh.

Main Point :-   (i) The MPOWER project, aimed at improving academic results in grades 6-12 and closing gaps in reading and math, has a total cost of USD 45 million, with USD 35 million funded by the World Bank and the rest by the Government of India.

      (ii) The project aims to reduce dropout rates in Meghalaya, with a focus on providing career guidance, mental health awareness, and life skills training to both current and former students, as the state has one of the highest dropout rates in India.

(iii) The project will also provide business skills training to aspiring entrepreneurs and out-of-school adolescents, in partnership with the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS).

India and Malaysia hold their inaugural Security Dialogue to enhance bilateral cooperation.

On January 7, 2025, India and Malaysia held their first-ever India-Malaysia Security Dialogue in New Delhi to improve their cooperation in defence and security. The goal was to strengthen the ties between the two countries, especially in areas that are important to both nations' interests.


      - The dialogue was co-chaired by Ajit Doval, India's National Security Adviser (NSA) to the Prime Minister, and Raja Dato' Nushirwan Bin Zainal Abidin, Malaysia's Director General (DG) of the National Security Council.


      - Both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, fighting extremism, cybersecurity, the defense industry, and maritime security, while also institutionalizing the dialogue as a regular event with annual meetings to ensure sustained discussions and collaboration.

      - Strategic and Security Collaboration: Both sides discussed enhancing cooperation in critical minerals and rare earths, essential for technology and industry, and exchanged views on global and regional security, reaffirming their shared commitment to addressing evolving security challenges.

Main Point :-   (i) This security dialogue came after a visit by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim to India in August 2024, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

      (ii) Malaysia is India's 13th largest trade partner and the 3rd largest trade partner among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

A new ant species, Tapinoma onaele, has been discovered in the Western Ghats.

In January 2025, researchers from Goa, Dehradun (Uttarakhand), and Karnataka discovered a new ant species called Tapinoma onaele in the Western Ghats, Kodagu district, Karnataka. The species is named after the Kannada word 'onaele', meaning "dried leaves," reflecting its natural habitat in the leaf litter on the forest floor.


      - This discovery adds to other significant finds, such as Protanilla flamma and Probolomyrmex procne, a species that had not been seen in India for 30 years.


      - Goa is the third known location in India where this species has been documented.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Leaf litter, made up of fallen leaves and organic material, is essential for the ecosystem as it provides shelter and food for various organisms, including ants.

      (ii) These ants play a key role in decomposition, soil movement, and pest control, making them vital for forest ecology.

(iii) He also played a key role in helping Cyprus become a member of the European Union (EU) in 2004.

Vandana Agrawal has launched two FPVs (Fast Patrol Vessels), named GSL YARD - Amulya and Akshay, for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

On January 5, 2025, Vandana Agrawal, Chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) Committee on Ship Acquisition, Financing, and Leasing, launched two Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) in Vasco da Gama, Goa. The vessels are named YARD - Amulya (1272) and Akshay (1273), and they are designed for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).


      - This event marked an important milestone in GSL's growth and highlighted its dedication to technological and operational excellence.


      - Both vessels are indigenously designed and built by GSL, in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) are specifically designed to fulfill the Indian Coast Guard's (ICG) operational needs, including surveillance and the protection of offshore assets and island territories, with key specifications of 52 meters in length, 8 meters in breadth, and a displacement of 320 tonnes.

      (ii) The FPVs are designed for high-speed patrolling and surveillance missions, helping to strengthen the Indian Coast Guard’s operational capabilities.

(iii) For the first time in its history, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) used it State-of-the-Art Ship-Lift System to simultaneously launch two vessels of the same series in October 2024. This showcases the shipyard's advanced infrastructure and modernization efforts.

Indian States Showcase Economic Resilience with Over 7% GSDP Growth Post-Pandemic.

India's states have exhibited strong economic resilience post-COVID-19, with 25 states recording over 7% growth in their Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) during FY22 and FY23, as per the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) report. Among them, 17 states, including Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Odisha, achieved an impressive 9% growth rate. The report underscores the sectoral strengths contributing to India's economic growth, highlighting Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh as leaders in agricultural production. Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha have leveraged their industrial and mineral wealth, while Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka excel in industrial and technological advancements. Tourism-centric states like Kerala, Rajasthan, and Goa boost foreign exchange earnings. Infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, along with renewable energy initiatives in Rajasthan and Gujarat, align with sustainable development goals. Improved connectivity in Northeastern states has transformed them into trade and tourism hubs. Human development achievements in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, coupled with initiatives like Gujarat's Vibrant Gujarat Summit and Telangana's IT corridor, have attracted foreign investments, amplifying India's global outreach. PHDCCI proposes a nine-pronged strategy to sustain and enhance state-level growth, focusing on improving ease of doing business, reducing costs, accelerating infrastructure development, promoting sustainable growth, boosting the services sector, and fostering skill development and innovation.

The taxonomy aims to define green steel, foster innovation, and create a market for low-carbon products, supporting India's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.

Harmanpreet Singh named FIH Men's Player of the Year 2024 and PR Sreejesh wins Goalkeeper of the Year.

On 8th Nov 2024, Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and former goalkeeper PR Sreejesh won FIH Men's Player of the Year and Men's Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively, during the 49th FIH Statutory Congress held in Muscat, Oman.


      - Winners were determined through a voting process involving an expert panel, national hockey associations, fans, and media.


      - Harmanpreet Singh had previously won the FIH Men's Player of the Year award in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

      - He won this title with 63.84% of the votes, while Joop de Mol (Netherlands) finished 2nd with 16.10% of the vote share.

Main Points:-   (i) PR Sreejesh, known as "The Wall of India," won his 3rd FIH Men's Goalkeeper of the Year award. He had earlier won this title in 2021 and 2022.

      (ii) He secured over 62% of the votes, while Olympic Gold medallist Pimrin Blaak (Netherlands) finished 2nd with 22% of the votes.
