Rajasthan to Collaborate with MP in India's First Cheetah Conservation Corridor.
In May 2025, Rajasthan is set to play a vital role in India's first inter-state cheetah conservation corridor by partnering with Madhya Pradesh (MP). Together, they will create a 17,000 square kilometer (sq km) wildlife corridor that will facilitate the free movement of cheetahs in a protected and connected environment.
- The primary goal of this ambitious project is to enhance the genetic diversity of cheetahs, ensure better wildlife mobility, and address the challenges posed by habitat fragmentation.
- The 17,000 Sq Km corridor will span across two states: 10,500 Sq Km in Madhya Pradesh (MP) and 6,500 Sq Km in Rajasthan. It will cover 27 districts, with 13 in Rajasthan and 12 in MP. Seven districts in Rajasthan—Kota, Bundi, Baran, Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, and Chittorgarh—will be integrated into the project.
- The corridor will connect Palpur Kuno National Park (NP) and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in MP to the Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan, providing a continuous habitat for cheetah movement.

(i) The wildlife corridor will enable cheetahs to move from Kuno NP in MP, through the Mukundara Hills Reserve in Rajasthan, and to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary.

Former Union Minister Girija Vyas Passes Away.
In May 2025, veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Dr. Girija Vyas passed away at the age of 79 in Ahmedabad (Gujarat). She was born in 1946 in Nathdwara, Rajsamand district, Rajasthan.
- Dr. Girija Vyas began her political career in 1977 as the Udaipur District Congress Committee President.
- She served three terms as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha in 1991, 1998, and 2009.

- At 14 years and 32 days, Suryavanshi became the youngest cricketer ever to score a century in any official Twenty20 (T20) match. He broke the previous record set by Manish Pandey, who scored a T20 century at 19 years and 253 days in 2009.

Arvind Singh Mewar, Member of the Former Royal Family of Mewar & Chairman of HRH Group of Hotels, Passes Away.
In March 2025, Arvind Singh Mewar, a prominent member of the erstwhile royal family of Mewar and a descendant of the Rajput king Maharana Pratap, passed away at the age of 81 at the City Palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Born on December 13, 1944, in Udaipur, he was the Chairman of the Historic Resort Hotels (HRH) group of hotels in Udaipur and the Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation (MMCF), Udaipur.
- Mewar was an active cricketer during the 1960s and 1970s, making his debut in the Ranji Trophy (Rajasthan) in December 1961.
- The second son of the late Bhagwat Singh Mewar, he was the 76th Custodian of the House of Mewar and was popularly known as Shriji.
- Under his leadership, 'The Cricket Institute, Udaipur' was established, promoting sports and athletes in the region.

A high-level Indian delegation of 18 members from the Mumbai (Maharashtra)-based Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Jaipur (Rajasthan)-based Jewellers Association Jaipur (JAJ), and Jaipur (Rajasthan)-based Sitapura Gems and Jewellery Industry Association (SGJIA) visited Thailand from 22 to 24 February 2025.
- During the visit, the delegation signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at the 71st Bangkok Gem and Jewellery Fair (BGJF) held in Bangkok, Thailand on 22 February 2025.
- These MoUs aim to enhance collaboration, research, innovation, and market expansion between the jewellery industries of India and Thailand.

Rajasthan Finance Minister Diya Kumari Launches State's First Green Budget Worth Rs 27,854 Crore for Sustainability.
On February 19, 2025, Diya Kumari, Deputy Chief Minister (CM) and Finance Minister (FM) of Rajasthan, presented the state's Annual Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, with an outlay of Rs 5.37 lakh crore. The budget focuses on essential sectors such as electricity, roads, water, health, and agriculture while incorporating sustainability measures.
- Rajasthan's first Green Budget allocates Rs 27,854 crore, which accounts for 11.34% of the total scheme expenditure and 5.18% of the total budget for sustainability initiatives.
- FM Diya Kumari committed to transforming Rajasthan into a USD 350 billion economy by 2030.
Provisions include free solar plants and 150 electricity units per month for residents.

(i) Estimated Revenue Receipts of Rs 2,94,536.49 crore and Revenue Expenditure of Rs 3,25,545.90 crore, resulting in a Revenue Deficit of Rs 31,009.41 crore.

The Rajasthan government has renamed Foy Sagar as Varun Sagar and King Edward Memorial as Maharishi Dayanand Vishrant Grih.
In February 2025, the Rajasthan government renamed a lake and a building in Ajmer, Rajasthan, both over a century old and previously named during British rule. The 132-year-old Foy Sagar Lake was renamed Varun Sagar, and the 113-year-old King Edward Memorial Bhawan was renamed Maharishi Dayanand Vishrant Grih.
- The official renaming process was carried out by the Ajmer Municipal Corporation.
- Foy Sagar Lake was built in 1892 as a famine relief project and was named after a British engineer, Foy, during British rule. It has now been renamed in honor of Lord Varun, the god of water.
- A ghat (a series of steps leading down to the water) and a statue of Lord Varun will also be constructed around the lake for people to sit and pray.

(i) King Edward Memorial Bhawan was built between 1912 and 1913 and named after King Edward VII during British rule. It is located on Railway Station Road, Ajmer, Rajasthan.
(ii) The building has now been renamed to honor Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of the Arya Samaj, who attained nirvana (spiritual liberation) in Ajmer.

RBI Grants Approval for Zulia Investments to Raise Stake in AU Small Finance Bank.
In February 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved Zulia Investments Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Singapore's Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited, to raise its stake in AU Small Finance Bank (SFB), based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, to 7%.
- On February 12, 2025, AU SFB received an official RBI letter allowing Zulia and its associated entities to acquire up to 7% of the bank's paid-up capital or voting rights within one year. If the acquisition is not completed by February 12, 2026, the approval will lapse.
- Currently, Zulia holds a 1.37% stake in AU SFB, while foreign institutional and portfolio investors own 39.35%.
- If Zulia increases its stake, it may become the largest foreign investor in the bank.

The 3rd edition of the India-Egypt joint military exercise 'Cyclone 2025' commenced at the Maharajan Field Range, Rajasthan, focusing on enhancing defence cooperation and special forces interoperability in desert conditions. The exercise will be conducted over 14 days, from February 10-23, 2025.
- Exercise 'Cyclone 2025' aims to foster cooperation between the two armies by facilitating discussions, joint training sessions, and military drills, further strengthening their strategic partnership.
- Exercise Cyclone has been conducted between India and Egypt since 2023 as a joint military training initiative.
- The exercise aligns with Chapter VII of the United Nations (UN) Charter, emphasizing international security and military collaboration, and its 2nd edition was held in Anshas, Egypt, from January 22 to February 1, 2024.

(i) Cyclone 2025 is a joint military exercise focused on combat in urban areas and hostage rescue. The Indian Army's Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and Egypt’s Commando Squadron and Airborne Platoon are participating under the motto, "Together we train, together we excel." The operation includes counter-terrorism missions, raids, reconnaissance, and special forces skills such as sniping, combat free fall, surveillance, and target designation.

In January 2025, 121 Finance Private Limited, based in Jaipur (Rajasthan), India’s first Reserve Bank of India (RBI) registered Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) Factor, partnered with Government e-Marketplace (GeM), an initiative by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I). Along with Perfios Software Solutions Private Limited, based in Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) from Mumbai (Maharashtra), they developed GeM Sahay 2.0.
- GeM Sahay 2.0 aims to improve financial inclusion by making the platform easier to use and more effective for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), while providing a smooth experience for lenders.

In January 2025, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Rajesh Nirwan, a 1992-batch senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Rajasthan cadre, as the Director General (DG) of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA).
- According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPP&P), his appointment will take effect once he assumes charge and will remain in place until further notice.
- Rajesh Nirwan takes over from Amrit Mohan Prasad, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Odisha cadre, who had been serving as the DG of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and holding the additional charge of DG, BCAS, since November 1, 2024.

(i) Rajesh Nirwan began his career as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), Jaipur (Rajasthan), and later served as the police chief in various cities of Rajasthan, including Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, and Kota.
(ii) In 2007, he was promoted to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where he served for 2 years.
(iii) He was appointed Inspector General (IG) of Police in 2010 and led the Ajmer Range (Rajasthan) until 2012.

Indore and Udaipur Become India's First Cities to Receive Wetland City Accreditation under Ramsar Convention.
In January 2025, during the 64th meeting of the independent Advisory Committee on Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) of the Ramsar Convention held in Gland, Switzerland, the list of 31 newly accredited Wetland Cities was announced. Among these, Indore (Madhya Pradesh, MP) and Udaipur (Rajasthan) became the first two Indian cities to receive the prestigious international accreditation as 'Wetland Cities' under the Ramsar Convention.
- With this, the total number of accredited Wetland Cities worldwide has now reached 74.
- The accreditation was granted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) under the Ramsar Convention.
- The accreditation is valid for 6 years and aims to promote the conservation and sustainable use of urban wetlands, ensuring ecological and socio-economic benefits for local populations.
Main Point :-
(i) In December 2024, the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India (GoI), nominated three Indian cities: Indore, Udaipur, and Bhopal (MP), for Wetland City Accreditation.
(ii) The Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) is a voluntary system established by the Ramsar Convention in 2015 to recognize cities that have taken significant actions to protect and sustainably manage their urban wetlands. To earn this accreditation, cities must meet six international criteria, including measures to protect wetland ecosystems and promote their sustainable use.
(iii) China leads the global list with 22 accredited cities, followed by France with 9 cities.

DRDO Successfully Completes Field Trials of Nag Mark 2 Anti-Tank Guided Missile.
On January 13, 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and headquartered in New Delhi, successfully conducted field trials of the Nag Mark 2, an advanced Fire-and-Forget Anti-Tank Guided Missile. The trials were conducted at the Pokhran Field Range in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
- Following the successful trials, the Nag Mark 2 and its carrier system are now ready for induction into the Indian Army (IA), marking a significant milestone in India's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India) initiative.
- Nag Mark 2 is a third-generation anti-tank missile, developed indigenously by DRDO, incorporating fire-and-forget technology, allowing high accuracy strikes on targets locked before launch.
- During three field trials, the missile successfully destroyed all targets, proving its effectiveness at both maximum and minimum ranges, including neutralizing modern armoured threats like tanks with explosive reactive armour (ERA).
Main Point :-
(i) The Nag Mark 2 travels at 230 meters per second and can destroy enemy tanks up to 4 kilometers away within 17-18 seconds.
(ii) Weighing approximately 45 kg and measuring 6 feet 1 inch, the missile was developed by DRDO at a cost of ₹300 crore.
(iii) The Nag Missile Carrier (NAMICA) Version 2, a vehicle-mounted missile carrier, was also successfully tested, ensuring effective deployment of the Nag Mark 2 missile on the battlefield.

GST Council Holds 55th Meeting in Jaisalmer Under Nirmala Sitharaman's Leadership.
The 55th Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting, chaired by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman (Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corporate Affairs), took place on December 21, 2024, in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
- Among the key recommendations by the GST Council, the highlight was the reduction of the GST rate on Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) to 5%.
Main Point :-
(i) The Council approved a complete GST exemption for gene therapy, aiming to enhance accessibility to advanced medical treatments.
(ii) The Council resolved to lower the compensation cess rate on supplies to merchant exporters to 0.1%.
(iii) The GST Council approved a GST exemption on contributions made by general insurance companies from third-party motor vehicle premiums to the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund).

Indian States Showcase Economic Resilience with Over 7% GSDP Growth Post-Pandemic.
India's states have exhibited strong economic resilience post-COVID-19, with 25 states recording over 7% growth in their Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) during FY22 and FY23, as per the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) report. Among them, 17 states, including Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Odisha, achieved an impressive 9% growth rate. The report underscores the sectoral strengths contributing to India's economic growth, highlighting Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh as leaders in agricultural production. Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha have leveraged their industrial and mineral wealth, while Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Karnataka excel in industrial and technological advancements. Tourism-centric states like Kerala, Rajasthan, and Goa boost foreign exchange earnings. Infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, along with renewable energy initiatives in Rajasthan and Gujarat, align with sustainable development goals. Improved connectivity in Northeastern states has transformed them into trade and tourism hubs. Human development achievements in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, coupled with initiatives like Gujarat's Vibrant Gujarat Summit and Telangana's IT corridor, have attracted foreign investments, amplifying India's global outreach. PHDCCI proposes a nine-pronged strategy to sustain and enhance state-level growth, focusing on improving ease of doing business, reducing costs, accelerating infrastructure development, promoting sustainable growth, boosting the services sector, and fostering skill development and innovation.

Shashi Ruia, the co-founder of Essar Group, has passed away at the age of 81.
In November 2024, Shashi Ruia, co-founder of Essar Global Fund Limited (EGFL) and a prominent business tycoon, passed away at the age of 81 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was born on December 23, 1943, in Rajasthan.
- Shashi Ruia, known for his humility and charitable work, was a first-generation entrepreneur. He started his career in 1965, working under the guidance of his father, Nand Kishore Ruia.
- In 1969, he and his brother Ravi Ruia founded Essar Group (also known as Essar Global Fund Limited, EGFL). The company initially focused on construction and engineering projects.
- In 1991, Essar expanded into the power sector, becoming India's first Independent Power Producer (IPP). The company later ventured into shipping in 1992 and telecom in 1995.
Main Point :-
(i) Shashi Ruia was actively involved in various national and business organizations, including the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), where he served on the managing committee.
(ii) In 2017, he joined an elite list of achievers. He and his brother were honored with the "Business India Businessman of the Year Award" in 2010.

Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Form Joint Committee for Cheetah Project.
The Governments of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have formed a 10-member joint corridor management committee between the two states in response to incidents of cheetahs from Madhya Pradesh (MP) straying into neighboring Rajasthan. The committee aims to create and manage a cheetah corridor between the two states, ensuring the safe movement of cheetahs.
- The committee was formed following incidents of cheetahs straying from MP into Rajasthan in December 2023 and May 2024.
- The panel, co-chaired by the Principal Chief Conservators of Forests (PCCFs) (wildlife) from MP and Rajasthan, has been tasked with identifying the "Cheetah Conservancy Landscape."
Main Points:-
(i) The committee will discuss and formulate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two states.
(ii) The primary focus will be on conserving these felines, creating appropriate habitats, and supporting the future relocation of cheetahs from MP's Kuno National Park (KNP) and Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary (GSWS).
