The protocol for establishment of Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) between India and Dominican Republic was signed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) of Dominican Republic at Santo Domingo on March 12, 2024. The protocol was signed by Mr Roberto Álvarez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Dominican Republic and Mr Ramu Abbagani, Ambassador of India to the Dominican Republic on behalf of the Department of Commerce. The agreement, signed in the 25 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, is an important step to elevate the existing economic and commercial relations further. The protocol envisages to strengthen and develop cooperation on trade, services, industrial technologies and various other sectors by means of technical assistance, training programmes and capacity building.
The Union Cabinet had approved the proposal for signing of the said protocol for establishment of JETCO on January 24, 2024.

The project aims to make peri-urban areas of Ahmedabad livable, environmentally sustainable, and efficient with robust physical and social infrastructure, a vibrant economy, and a distinct identity as a preferred investment destination. The project will benefit urban poor, women, and migrant workers through improved urban services and urban governance. It will construct 166 km of water distribution network, 126 km of climate-resilient stormwater drainage, 300 km of sewerage systems, and four sewage treatment plants.
The project is also supporting 10 junction improvements along the existing Sardar Patel Ring Road to improve connectivity of peri-urban areas to Ahmedabad city.

NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) has partnered with Nepal-based payment network Fonepay Payment Service, for cross-border UPI transactions between India and Nepal. The agreement will facilitate QR-code-based, person-to-merchant (P2M) UPI transactions between the two countries. In the first phase, Indian consumers will be able to make instant, secure and convenient UPI payments across various business stores in Nepal to merchants on the Fonepay Network. This cross-border payment solution will significantly improve economic ties, commerce and tourism between the two nations, eventually promoting economic prosperity and progress.
Fonepay is a Payment System Operator (PSO) and a subsidiary of the F1Soft Group.
It facilitates inter-bank person-to-person (P2P) and person-to merchant (P2M) transactions through its interoperable network and mobile platforms.
Regulated by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), FonePay is Nepal’s first mobile payment network to be licensed as a PSO.

Global rating agency Fitch Ratings raised India’s growth forecast for the next financial year (FY25) to 7% from 6.5% estimated earlier. Fitch projects consumer inflation in the country at 4.0% by the end of the year. Another ratings agency Moody's pegged the economic growth at 6.4% in 2025 while revising its forecast for the current year to 6.8% from 6.1%. The revision by Fitch comes roughly two weeks after official data showed the country's GDP expanded 8.4% in the October-December period, boosted by double-digit expansion in the manufacturing sector. That was much higher than an average estimate of 6.6% by most economists.

The two vacancies were created in the Election Commission after the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey in February and the resignation of Arun Goel recently, days ahead of Lok Sabha polls 2024. Gyanesh Kumar is a 1988-batch IAS officer from the Kerala cadre. Kumar, has worked with Union Home Minister Amit Shah before. He retired as secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation, which comes under Amit Shah, on 31st January 2024. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu is also 1998 batch IAS officer but from Uttarakhand cadre. Sandhu has served as the chief secretary of Uttarakhand when Pushkar Singh Dhami became the Chief Minister in 2021.

A new colourful flowering plant species, ‘Begonia Narahari’, with a distinctive feature of displaying a vivid blue iridescence in direct light, was discovered in Mishmi Hills of Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district by scientists. The plant has a distinctive feature of displaying a vivid blue iridescence in direct light. The plant has been named after a scientist from Hyderabad, G. Narahari Sastry, who also happens to be a former CSIR-Director of North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat (Assam). The plant, belonging to the genus Begonia, is renowned for its striking appearance and is considered one of the largest and fastest-growing genera of flowering plants.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai launched 'Krishak Unnati Yojna' to provide input assistance to farmers and released Rs13,320 crore to 24.72 lakh cultivators. The scheme was launched at a function at Saryu Prasad Agrawal stadium in Balod district. Input assistance worth Rs13,320 crore was transferred to the bank accounts of 24.75 lakh farmers under the Krishak Unnati Yojana. Of these cultivators, 24.72 lakh sold paddy this year in the kharif marketing season 2023-24 at minimum support price, and they were paid the difference amount of Rs13,289 crore. Similarly, more than Rs31 crore was paid to 2,829 farmers producing paddy seeds through the seed corporation.
The state government fulfilled its promise to farmers, by disbursing pending paddy bonus of two years (2014-15 and 2015-16) worth Rs3,716 crore to them on Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji's birthday in December 2023.
Prime Minister Modi had given a guarantee to launch the 'Mahtari Vandan Yojana' for women, and on March 10, he virtually transferred Rs655 crore to the bank accounts of more than 70 lakh (married) women in the state.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who attended the launch in Rajnandgaon, was also virtually linked to the main programme in Balod.

In November 2023, L&T Finance Holdings sourced $125 million loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB), and as part of the co-financing agreement, an additional $125 million loan is now being raised from JICA. At least 40 percent of the proceeds will be allocated for women borrowers, while the rest will be allocated to support farmers, MSMEs, as well as loans to purchase new two-wheeler vehicles including electric two-wheelers.

Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) has launched a new loan scheme called ‘Vikas Spoorty’ to strengthen the rural credit delivery system and also to motivate the common man to take up income-generating activities on a smaller scale. This scheme is a hassle-free loan without collateral security and surety aimed at meeting the genuine credit needs of small entrepreneurs. It links repayment of the loan to the small amounts contributed by them on a daily basis to their ‘Daily Deposit’ scheme of the bank (pigmy account) at their doorsteps. Under this scheme, people may avail a minimum loan of ₹50,000 and a maximum of ₹2,00,000. But the customer shall open a ‘Daily Deposit’ (pigmy) account and contribute regularly to it to service the repayment of instalment and interest for the loan.

Federal Bank and South Indian Bank have stopped issuing co-branded credit cards following regulatory changes in credit card rules. The Reserve Bank of India has made amendments in master direction for credit and debit card issuance and conduct rules. Federal Bank has three co-branded credit cards with partnerships with OneCard Scapia Technology Pvt Ltd and FI Brand Pvt Ltd. Pursuant to a letter from Reserve Bank of India, dated 12 March 2024, RBI have stopped issuance of new co-branded credit cards.
Both Federal Bank and South Indian Bank said they would continue to service the existing customers who currently hold co-branded credit cards issued by them.

As part of this MoU, India aims to assist Bhutan to enhance energy efficiency in the household sector by promoting star labeling programme developed by Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
The formulation of building codes, to suite the climate condition of Bhutan, will be facilitated based with India’s experience.

"Whereas, there has been a demand from the people of the region that 17th September may be celebrated as Hyderabad Liberation Day. When India gained independence, the Razakars called for Hyderabad state to either join Pakistan or to become a Muslim dominion while resisting its merger with the Union of India.

This MoU centres around the project 'BhuPRAHARI', an initiative aimed at leveraging ground and space-based geospatial technologies along with artificial intelligence to monitor and manage assets under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

The activities and modules of the Curriculum and the Framework will be imparted to children across all the anganwadi centres in the country, which number more than 13 lakh. National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) will lead the training of both the Anganwadi functionaries on the new Curriculum and Framework. For children from age 3 to 6, the National Curriculum for ECCE 2024 will cover all areas of development as per the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage 2022 (NCF-FS). The curriculum will be structured to provide a weekly calendar spanning 36 weeks of active learning, 8 weeks of reinforcement and 4 weeks of initiation, together with 5+1 days of play-based learning in one week, and three blocks of activities in one day.
NIPCCD will design the material with the help of an internal committee and development partners; feedback from Anganwadi Workers will be incorporated.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) expanded its framework for qualified stock brokers (QSBs), setting out three additional parameters for their identification that includes brokers’ compliance score, proprietary trading volumes and grievance redressal mechanism. Brokers can now voluntarily opt to become QSBs. SEBI had previously outlined four parameters to designate a stockbroker as a QSB in a circular dated February 6, 2023. These parameters included the total number of active clients, total assets of clients, trading volumes, and end-of-day margin obligations. The initial list of QSBs was issued on March 3, 2023, based on these criteria. The revised framework for designating a stockbroker as a QSB includes the following parameters: Total number of active clients. Available total assets of clients. Trading volumes (excluding proprietary trading).
The revised list of QSBs will be released jointly by stock exchanges in consultation with SEBI.

Following the approval, Curry Road will be renamed to Lalbaug, Sandhurst Road will now be known as Dongri, and Marine Lines will be rechristened as Mumbadevi. Cotton Green will be renamed to Kalachowki, Charni Road to Girgaon, Dockyard Road to Mazgaon, and King Circle to Tirthakar Parshivnath. The cabinet has also decided to rename Ahmednagar district as Ahilya Nagar.

It is a significant step in government’s efforts to help upgrade the technological capabilities of pharmaceutical industry and ensure its alignment with the global standards. The approval of the revised Scheme follows a comprehensive review by the Scheme Steering Committee in light of the requirements of the revised Schedule-M of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rule, 1945 as issued by the Department of Health & Family Welfare on 28/12/2023. The revised guideline aims to support the pharmaceutical industry's up-gradation to the Revised Schedule-M & WHO-GMP standards, enhancing the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products manufactured in country. The scheme will cover pharmaceutical units with turnover of less than Rs500 crore for the last three years. These units will be eligible for incentive, subject to a maximum of Rs1 crore.
(i) Turnover less than ₹50.00 crore: 20% of investment under eligible activities
(ii) Turnover from ₹50.00 crore to less than ₹250.00 crore: 15% of investment under eligible activities
(iii) Turnover from ₹250.00 crore to less than ₹500.00 crore: 10% of investment under eligible activities.

Through the MoU, EaseMyTrip will train members of SHGs in 800 districts across India. The eligibility criteria for selection includes basic knowledge of reading & writing English/Hindi and familiarity with using a Computer & browsing the internet. The training will cover making travel reservations across all essential segments, including trains, buses, hotels and flights.
EaseMyTrip will conduct a pilot project across 10 Blocks in Districts identified by the MoRD, including Patna, Begusarai, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Bhopal, Ujjain, Ayodhya and Varanasi.

The complaints pertained to mobile/electronic banking, loans and advances, ATM/debit cards, credit cards, pension payments, remittances, and para banking, among others. The Annual Report of the Ombudsman Scheme 2022-23 is the first stand-alone report under the Reserve Bank – Integrated Ombudsman Scheme (RB-IOS), 2021 elucidating the activities of the 22 Offices of the RBI Ombudsman (ORBIOs), Centralised Receipt and Processing Centre (CRPC) and the Contact Centre during the year. Complaints against banks formed the largest portion (1,96,635 complaints), accounting for 83.78 per cent of complaints received by the ORBIOs. As many as 2,34,690 complaints were handled by the ORBIOs and 4,68,854 were disposed at the CRPC.
The complaints disposed at the ORBIOs have an average turnaround time (TAT) of 33 days during 2022-23, which improved significantly from 44 days during 2021-22.
Majority (57.48 percent) of maintainable complaints disposed under RB-IOS, 2021 were resolved through mutual settlement, conciliation, or mediation.

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has secured approval from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for its first anchored project, Avaana Sustainability Fund (ASF), valued at USD 120 million.
Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has secured approval from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for its first anchored project, Avaana Sustainability Fund (ASF), valued at USD 120 million. The closure was announced at the 38th board meeting of the GCF, which will invest USD 24.5 million in the fund. The primary aim of the ASF project is to invest in early-stage companies harnessing technology-led innovation to spur climate solutions and sustainability in the country. This is the first project anchored by SIDBI including the first secured for the country in the past few years.
The Green Climate Fund is a key component of the historic Paris Agreement and also the world's largest climate fund.
The bank will also liaise with key stakeholders and ministries including the department of financial services.

Bank of Baroda has launched the bob Earth Green Team Deposits scheme to raise deposits that will be deployed towards financing eligible environment-friendly projects and sectors. As part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, the scheme proceeds will be specifically earmarked for environment-friendly projects and sectors. The bank is offering up to 7.15% annual interest rates to investors, depending on the tenor, and anyone, including high-net-worth individuals (HNIs), resident Indians, and the general public, can invest in the scheme. Depositors can start their investment from Rs5,000 up to below Rs2 crore. Both existing and new customers of Bank of Baroda can open a green deposit through any of its branches across India.
These include a 1.5-year tenure, which represents the goal of limiting the increase in global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, and a tenure of 1717 days, which emphasises the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations twice.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath to the Zardari in a small yet formal ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the Presidential Palace. Zardari replaces Dr Arif Alvi, who stayed in office for five months after completing his five-year term in September 2023. This is the second time that Zardari has won the presidency, a record for any civilian. Earlier he served as the 11th president of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013 and is one of the four democratically elected presidents to have completed their five-year constitutional term. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018.

Ministry of Jal Shakti has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore for Establishment of an International Centre of Excellence.
Central Water Commission (CWC), Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore for Establishment of an International Centre of Excellence. International Centre of Excellence for Dams (ICED) will be established under externally supported Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) Phase II and III. This MoA will remain valid for ten years or till the duration of the DRIP Phase-II and III Scheme, whichever is earlier, from the date of signing this MoA. ICED will act as a technological arm of the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) to provide specialized technical support in investigations, modelling, research and innovations, and technical support services for the Indian and overseas dam owners.
The MoJS will provide grant of Rs118.05 Crore for procurement of goods, machinery for establishment of new laboratories.
In addition, ICED will have a Centre Development Fund.
The first ICED has been institutionalized at IIT Roorkee upon signing of MoA in February 2023.

The approval given is for the proposal to ready five prototypes of AMCA, which the Defence Research and Development Organisation will carry out over the next 5 years. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) of DRDO in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will build the indigenous fifth generation AMCA.
In March 2023, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had inaugurated the new Flight Control System (FCS) facility in Bengaluru where R&D is being done for the avionics of AMCA.

He also launched the Sambalpur chapter of '100 Cube' start-ups to establish 100 start-ups on its premises, each with an approximate valuation of Rs100 crore, by Odisha's centennial celebration in 2036.
The event featured an exhibition showcasing 50 startups from Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, and other districts of Odisha.

India and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) signed a Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) committed to promote investments to increase the stock of foreign direct investments by USD 100 billion in India in the next 15 years.
India and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) signed a Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) committed to promote investments to increase the stock of foreign direct investments by USD 100 billion in India in the next 15 years. The investments do not cover foreign portfolio investment. This agreement to help promote investments and exports of key domestic services sectors such as IT, audio-visual, and movement of skilled professionals. This will facilitate the generation of 1 million direct employment in India through such investments. The agreement has 14 chapters, including trade in goods, rules of origin, intellectual property rights (IPRs), trade in services, investment promotion and cooperation, government procurement, technical barriers to trade, and trade facilitation.
The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) members are Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
EFTA is offering 92.2% of its tariff lines which covers 99.6% of India’s exports.
