Global Handwashing Day is observed on 15 October, a global advocacy day dedicated to effective handwashing to prevent diseases and save lives.

Important Days

Global Hand Washing Day (GHD) is an international hand washing promotion campaign to inspire and mobilize people around the world to improve hand washing habits. It is important to wash hands frequently and with soap at key points during the day. Global Handwashing Day was celebrated for the first time in 2008. The purpose of this day is to make people around the world aware of the importance of washing hands with soap to avoid diseases and infections. To celebrate this special day, more than 120 million children in 70 countries were encouraged to wash their hands with soap. Since then, the movement has gained momentum and has received support from various stakeholders such as governments, schools, NGOs and private firms. Global Hand Washing Day is observed every year on 15 October. The global campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about handwashing with soap as a key factor in disease prevention. Proper hand washing can reduce respiratory and intestinal diseases by 25-50%.
