Unemployment rate fell to 6.6% in Q1FY24: 19th quarter PLFS by NSO

The unemployment rate had risen sharply during the lockdown imposed in 2020 during the first wave of the pandemic. The unemployment rate for urban women and men aged 15-29 years stood at 36 per cent and 34.3 per cent respectively in April-June 2020. The urban unemployment rate fell to 6.6 per cent in the first quarter, April-June, of this financial year, according to the quarterly bulletin of the Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) released on Monday by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI). ) Even though the unemployment rate in urban areas was the lowest since the launch of the PLFS Bulletin in 2018, around 14 states recorded urban unemployment rates higher than the national average.
