BrahMos Aerospace is an India-Russian joint venture that produces supersonic cruise missiles. Missiles can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land platforms. The BrahMos missile travels at a speed of Mach 2.8 or almost three times the speed of sound. The Indian Air Force on Thursday successfully test-fired the extended range version of the air-launched BrahMos missile. By accurately striking a ship target from a Su-30 MKI aircraft in the Bay of Bengal area, the missile achieved the desired mission objectives," the Indian Air Force tweeted. The government said that due to this the Air Force has achieved success in hitting the ground over a long distance. Or the SU-30MKI aircraft has achieved a "significant increase in the capability" to conduct precision strikes against maritime targets.
