A new standardized protocol for the management of malnutrition in children was launched yesterday by Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister of Women and Child Development.

A new standardized protocol for the management of undernutrition in children was launched yesterday by the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani in the presence of Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai, Secretary, WCD and AYUSH, Minister of State for Women and Children, officials said. That there are 7.7 percent SAM children in the country. After identification of children through growth monitoring data, hunger testing will be conducted on all SAM children to screen for medical complications. Union Minister for Women and Child Development (WCD) Smriti Irani on Tuesday launched the first "protocol" for identification and management of malnutrition. Children by Government”, which is implemented by the WCD Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of AYUSH. The protocols define in detail broad criteria on identification of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM), procedures required for healthy weight gain and even dietary requirements for different levels of malnutrition in children.
