Hindustani classical vocalist Malini Rajurkar, who epitomised simplicity and depth, passed away in a Hyderabad hospital on Wednesday. She was 82 and had been suffering from age-related ailments. She is survived by two daughters and a granddaughter. Her body was donated to Osmania Medical College. She studied music with Vasantrao Rajurkar, who later became her husband. As one of the foremost exponents of Gwalior gharana, she forged a special connection with the audience in Pune at the annual Sawai Gandharva festival for nearly five decades. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's son Shriniwas said, "She was pregnant when she sang for the first time at Sawai Gandharva. Panditji tuned her tanpura which calmed her nerves."
