As per data released by Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India's unemployment rate has shot up at 7.8% in June 2022 with the loss of 13 million jobs, mainly in the agriculture sector. The massive fall in jobs was triggered by higher unemployment rate in rural areas, which went up to 8.03% from 6.62% in May 2022. In urban areas, it was reduced to 7.30% from 8.21% in May 2022. The highest rate of unemployment was witnessed in Haryana at 30.6 percent followed by Rajasthan at 29.8 percent, Assam at 17.2 percent, Jammu and Kashmir at 17.2 percent, Bihar at 14 percent.
