The Meghalaya government signed an agreement with the state owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) for developing three hydro electric projects. These projects will be of 235 MW. The NEEPCO under the agreement would set up the Umiam stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3 hydro power plants. The Umiam stage 3 is in the final stage and NEEPCO is expected to start the implementation process soon. Both Stage-I and Stage-II would cost around Rs1,750 crore with 70 percent loan.
