President Draupadi Murmu inaugurated the ₹15 crore skywalk and renovated Parvati Bhavan during her visit to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. The decision to remodel the skywalk was taken after the stampede on January 1, 2022, in which 12 pilgrims lost their lives. At that time, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had constituted an inquiry panel and the 200 meter skywalk was extended by 50 meters. “The length of the skywalk near the lift of Shridhar Bhawan was increased. Initially it was planned that the second floor corridor would be used. However, it was observed that the building was old and retrofitting was not advisable,” officials said. The Skywalk is going to be a 2.5 meter wide pedestrian flyover at a height of 20 feet above the existing track to serve as an entry way for pilgrims.
