According to the 77th round of the Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) of Agriculture household in the rural areas of India, Meghalaya tops across the country with average monthly income per agricultural household (Rs29,348). Punjab ranks 2nd in the country in average monthly income per agricultural household. Punjab (Rs26,701) is followed by Haryana (Rs22,841), Arunachal Pradesh (Rs19,225), Jammu and Kashmir (Rs18,918), group of Union Territories (Rs18,511), Mizoram (Rs17,964), Kerala (Rs17,915), group of northeastern states (Rs16,863), Uttarakhand (Rs13,552), Karnataka (Rs13,441), Gujarat (Rs12,631), Rajasthan (Rs12,520), Sikkim (Rs12,447) and Himachal Pradesh (Rs12,153). At present, sugarcane is cultivated on 1.25 lakh hectares in Punjab.
