Samimul Haq, a leading climate scientist from Bangladesh who inspired the world to understand, pay for and adapt to the impacts of rising temperatures on poor countries, died of heart failure on Saturday. He was 71 years old. Haq's friend, climate and health scientist Christie Eby of the University of Washington, said, "Saleem always focused on the poor and the marginalized, maintaining that climate change was about people, their lives, health and livelihoods.
