Ladakh gets fourth GI tag for 'Ladakh Seabuckthorn'

In Ladakh, following the GI tag for Apricot (Rakatse Karpo), Pashmina and Ladakhi wood carving, the Geographical Indications Registry functioning under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India has officially granted the GI tag to the Department of Industry and Trade. of Commerce, Ladakh and it was approved as the registered proprietor for 'Ladakh Sea Buckthorn' in Class 31. Cargill farmers are very excited for this special recognition for Sea Buckthorn, which is one of the most profitable crops in UT Ladakh. Ahmed Ali, CEO of Rangayol Organic Producer Company Limited, Cargill's first farmer producer organization, thanked the Government of India for granting GI tagging to Sea Buckthorn. He thanked the LG for taking the matter forward on priority basis for the overall benefit of the farming community. Ahmed said that after Ladakh became a Union Territory, there has been tremendous progress in all sectors but the government sector has given special attention to the agriculture sector. Attention has been received and as a result two out of four products have received GI tagging. ​
