Professor Rehman Rahi, a celebrated Kashmiri poet and critic, passed away in Srinagar at the age of 98. He was the first Kashmiri writer to be awarded the Jnanpith Award (2007), India's highest literary honor. He is credited with preserving the Kashmiri language and giving it a modern voice.
