The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a major expansion of its premier women's tournament, the ODI World Cup. From the 2029 edition onwards, the tournament will feature 10 teams, up from the current 8. The decision aims to accelerate the growth of women's cricket globally by providing more competitive opportunities for emerging nations and increasing the visibility of the sport. The ICC also approved a similar expansion for the Women's T20 World Cup, moving from 10 to 12 teams, to be implemented sooner.
