The Government of India has approved the submission of the country's Third National Communication (TNC) and Initial Adaptation Communication to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The brief states that a 33 per cent reduction in emissions intensity of India's gross domestic product (GDP) has been achieved between 2005 and 2019. It is important to note that in the original presentation of the NDC, India had set a target of 33 per cent reduction in emissions intensity of GDP by 2030. With regard to another NDC target related to adding non-fossil fuel-based power capacity, India currently has 41 per cent share of clean energy in terms of capacity. This is higher than the original NDC target of 40 percent for non-fossil fuel-based electricity in 2030. The land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector remained a net sink in 2019, removing 4,85,472 gigagrams of carbon dioxide equivalent (GgCO2e) emissions.
