On September 9, 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Sébastien Lecornu, former Defence Minister, as the new Prime Minister of France, succeeding François Bayrou, who resigned after a failed confidence vote. At 39, Lecornu became the youngest PM in French history.


      - Sébastien Lecornu began his political journey in 2002 with the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) and at age 22 in 2008 became the youngest government adviser under then-President Nicolas Sarkozy, marking his rapid rise in French politics.

      - Between 2009 and 2012, Lecornu served as advisor to Bruno Le Maire, then Minister of Agriculture, and was later elected Mayor of Vernon in 2014.

      - He also held the post of President of the Eure Department Council from 2015 to 2017, consolidating his influence in local governance.

Main Point :-   (i) Lecornu’s ministerial career included roles as Secretary of State for Ecological and Inclusive Transition (2017–2018), Minister for Local Authorities (2018–2020), Minister for the Overseas (2020–2022), and most recently, Minister of the Armed Forces (2022–2025).

      (ii) In 2017, he left the conservative Les Républicains party to join Macron’s centrist movement, demonstrating his political realignment. He later played a significant role in managing Emmanuel Macron’s successful re-election campaign in 2022.

(iii) Lecornu has received multiple prestigious honors, including Knight of the Order of Agricultural Merit, Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Germany, and Commander of the National Order of the Lion, reflecting his contributions at both national and international levels.
