SEBI Approves Appointment of Injeti Srinivas as Chairperson of NSE Governing Board.

On 9th September 2025, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) approved the appointment of retired IAS officer Injeti Srinivas as the new Chairperson of the Governing Board of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE), succeeding Girish Chandra Chaturvedi.


      - Injeti Srinivas, a 1983-batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre, fills the long-standing vacancy at the NSE after nearly two years, taking charge at a crucial time as the exchange prepares for its highly anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO).

      - He succeeds Girish Chandra Chaturvedi, who completed his tenure in 2024, ensuring continuity of leadership in India’s largest stock exchange amid evolving market dynamics and regulatory reforms.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Srinivas earlier served as the founding Chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) from July 2020 to July 2023, where he helped build IFSCA into a globally recognised unified regulator for international financial services.

      (ii) As Union Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA) between 2017 and 2020, he played a pivotal role in the implementation of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) and acted as an ex-officio member of SEBI, contributing to key corporate governance reforms.

(iii) He has also served as Union Sports Secretary and Director General of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), where he conceptualised and launched the flagship ‘Khelo India’ programme, marking his contribution to India’s sports ecosystem in addition to finance and corporate governance.
