World Coconut Day Observed Every September 2 to Celebrate the “Tree of Life”.

Recently, on September 2, 2025, World Coconut Day was celebrated globally, commemorating the founding of the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC). First observed in 2009, this day honors the coconut’s immense contributions to agriculture, culture, health, and livelihoods worldwide.


      - One, origin and significance: World Coconut Day was initiated by the APCC—an intergovernmental body representing coconut-producing nations—to raise awareness of the coconut’s critical role in food security, rural economies, and cultural traditions; it is observed on September 2 to coincide with the APCC's founding date.

      - Two, first celebrated in 2009: The inaugural World Coconut Day took place in 2009 with coconut exhibitions, farmer workshops, and cultural programs aimed at highlighting the ecological, economic, and health value of the “Tree of Life.”

     

Main Point :-   (i) Three, global reach and purpose: Since its inception, the observance has spread from Asia-Pacific to other regions, becoming a global platform for promoting sustainable farming, coconut-based industries in food, cosmetics, and eco-products, and supporting smallholder farmers.

      (ii) Four, India’s focus on research and resilience: This year in Assam, the Coconut Development Board (CDB) organized events under the theme “Uncovering Coconut’s Power, Inspiring Global Action,” featuring discussions on scientific farming, crop quality, handicraft exhibitions, and livelihood opportunities, highlighting Assam’s emphasis on sustainable innovation in the coconut sector.
