Akash Tripathi Appointed as New Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Limited.

In August 2025, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the appointment of Akash Tripathi as the new Managing Director (MD) of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).


      - Akash Tripathi, a 1998-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, succeeds Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of MNRE, who was holding the additional charge of SECI following the exit of RP Gupta. Santosh Kumar Sarangi will continue in his role as Chairman of SECI.

      - The key mandate for Akash Tripathi as MD of SECI will be to lead India’s renewable energy expansion and ensure the achievement of India’s ambitious target of 500 Gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030. His leadership will be crucial for accelerating investments and projects in the solar and clean energy sector.

      - Before this appointment, Akash Tripathi served as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, where he contributed to critical policy planning and implementation. His prior experience gives him a strong foundation to drive SECI’s renewable energy initiatives.

Main Point :-   (i) Throughout his career, Akash Tripathi has held several key leadership roles, including MD and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Digital India Corporation (DIC), CEO of India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), and CEO of MyGov.in.

      (ii) These roles highlight his expertise in digital governance, semiconductor development, and citizen engagement, which will add value to SECI’s mission of promoting renewable energy.

(iii) This appointment is expected to further strengthen SECI’s role in enhancing India’s renewable energy landscape, aligning with the government’s long-term energy transition and sustainability goals.
