Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka undertook his first-ever official visit to India from August 24 to 26, 2025, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 3-day visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties in security, trade, health, and technology.
- The Fijian delegation was led by PM Rabuka, accompanied by his spouse Sulueti Rabuka and senior ministers including Ratu Antonio Lalabalavu, Minister of Health and Medical Services of Fiji, along with other top government officials.
- The primary aim of the visit was to enhance India-Fiji cooperation in areas such as maritime security, healthcare, digital technology, mobility, education, defence collaboration, trade and capacity-building initiatives.
- PM Narendra Modi and PM Sitiveni Rabuka held a high-level bilateral meeting at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, reaffirming the shared vision of ‘Zero Tolerance to Terrorism’ and discussing ways to deepen strategic engagement between the two nations.
Main Point :- (i) A total of 9 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and bilateral agreements were exchanged across diverse sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare, defence, mobility and skill development, marking a significant step forward in India-Fiji relations.
(ii) During his India visit, PM Rabuka also delivered the 54th Sapru House Lecture organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in New Delhi, where he presented his vision of an ‘Ocean of Peace’ for the Pacific region.
(iii) The concept of ‘Ocean of Peace’ outlined by Rabuka emphasized building a peaceful, stable, secure, and sustainable future for the Pacific nations, reinforcing India’s role as a trusted partner in advancing regional security and prosperity.
