On August 13, 2025, veteran BJP leader and Saran MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy was re-elected as Secretary (Administration), effectively the General Secretary, of the Constitution Club of India (CCI), extending his unprecedented 25-year leadership in the role after a closely-fought contest against fellow BJP MP Sanjeev Kumar Balyan.
- The election saw a rare intra-party showdown between two senior BJP leaders. While Balyan, a Jat leader from Western UP, garnered support from a cross-party and regional bloc, Rudy relied on a coalition of Opposition MPs and sections within the BJP. This raised the stakes, turning routine election proceedings into a high-profile political battle.
- The voting, held on August 12, was intense and lengthy—spanning 25 rounds of counting. Rudy secured 354 direct votes and an additional 38 postal ballots, defeating Balyan by a margin of 102 votes.
- The contest drew widespread attention as power players across parties, including BJP stalwarts like Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, and Congress leaders such as Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, turned up to vote. The outcome reaffirmed Rudy’s entrenched role within the club’s power dynamics.
Main Point :- (i) Established in February 1947 to serve members of the Constituent Assembly, the Constitution Club of India serves as a premier forum for interaction among sitting and former MPs. Over the years, it has become a prestigious nexus for political networking. Rudy’s continued leadership highlights the trust and influence he commands within this elite institution.
(ii) Beyond the Secretary (Administration) position, other key posts saw smooth transitions. Tiruchi Siva and Rajeev Shukla were elected as Secretaries of Culture and Sports, while A. P. Jithender Reddy became Treasurer. The club's governing council comprises prominent parliamentarians, reinforcing its political influence.
