DPIIT and Copyright Office to Celebrate 68th Anniversary of Copyright Act, 1957 in Delhi.

On 4th June 2025, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), collaborated with the Copyright Office, Office of the Controller General of Patents, to organize a special event at Kamala Devi Complex, India International Centre, New Delhi.


      - The event marked the 68th anniversary of the Copyright Act, 1957.

      - Themed "Reform in Copyright Act in the Digital Era," the event aimed to bring together legal experts, creators, academics, and policymakers to discuss the future of copyright amidst digital transformation.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The Copyright Act, 1957 is the cornerstone of intellectual property rights (IPR) in India, protecting creators’ works across various fields such as literary, musical, dramatic, artistic works, cinematograph films, and sound recordings.

      (ii) Over the years, the Act has been amended multiple times to align with international treaties and keep pace with technological advancements, ensuring effective protection of copyrights.

(iii) Since the digitization of the copyright registration system, more than 3.5 lakh copyrights have been registered in India as of 2025, reflecting growing awareness among creators about the importance of IPR protection in the digital era.
