India Secures Presidency of International Institute of Administrative Sciences for 2025 to 2028.

On June 3, 2025, India was elected to the presidency of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. India received 87 out of 141 votes (61.7%), surpassing Austria, which secured 54 votes. This was during the IIAS Extraordinary General Assembly meeting held in Brussels.
- This is the first time in the nearly 100-year history of the IIAS that India has won the presidential position. The victory is considered a landmark achievement for India's global role in administrative leadership and governance reforms.
- India has been associated with the IIAS since 1998 through the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPP&P). DARPG has served as India’s official representative in this global forum.
- V. Srinivas, Secretary of DARPG, has been elected as the President of the Council of Administration of the IIAS. He succeeds Ra’ed Ben Shams of Bahrain. His election reflects India’s growing recognition for excellence in public administration and governance innovation.
Main Point :- (i) India hosted the IIAS General Assembly in February 2025 in New Delhi. Four nations—India, Austria, South Africa, and Bahrain—submitted nominations for the presidency. India's nominee, V. Srinivas, was elected through the General Assembly's democratic voting process.
(ii) India’s election to the presidency is a strong acknowledgment of its ongoing administrative reforms, digital governance models, and public service delivery improvements. It underlines the country's role as a global contributor to effective and accountable public governance.
(iii) The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) is an international non-profit organization that acts as a federation of 31 member countries, 20 national sections, and 15 academic research centres. It works closely with the United Nations, contributing to platforms like the Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) and the UN Public Administration Network (UNPAN) to promote public governance solutions globally.
