Government Announces 5-Point Action Plan Against Pakistan Following Pahalgam Terror Attack.

In April 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), the highest decision-making body on national security in India, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took a series of stringent actions against Pakistan in response to a terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 26 people, including a foreign national, in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - Following a CCS meeting held in New Delhi (Delhi), the Government of India (GoI) has implemented a 5-point action plan targeting Pakistan's infrastructure, diplomatic presence, and movement across borders. The measures are aimed at strengthening national security and countering terrorism.
  • - The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
  • - The Government of India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), a crucial water-sharing agreement between India and Pakistan, with immediate effect. This suspension will remain in place until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably halts its support for cross-border terrorism.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The government has decided to close the integrated Attari-Wagah Border, the international border between India and Pakistan, located near Attari, Amritsar, Punjab (India), and Wagah (Pakistan), with immediate effect. As a result, all cross-border movement through this route has been halted indefinitely.
  • (ii) The Government of India has announced the suspension of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals. Additionally, any SVES visa previously issued to Pakistani nationals is now deemed cancelled, and any Pakistani national currently in India under this scheme has been given 48 hours to leave the country.
  • (iii) The Government of India has decided to expel all Pakistani military, Naval, and Air advisors stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, declaring them 'Persona Non Grata' and giving them one week to leave India. In response, India will also withdraw its own military advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. Additionally, the Government of India has announced a reduction in diplomatic personnel at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, decreasing the staff from 55 to 30 by May 1, 2025.
