  • - India urged BRICS nations to collectively support the ‘Baku to Belem Roadmap,’ an initiative launched at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2024, which aims to mobilize USD 1.3 trillion annually in climate finance to help developing countries achieve their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

  • (i) India reaffirmed the 2021 New Delhi Statement, highlighting integrated climate action via adaptation, mitigation, and implementation. With BRICS expanding to 11 nations, India urged joint action on desertification, biodiversity loss, and marine plastic pollution, while stressing energy diversification and promoting the Green Grids Initiative under ISA for sustainable energy transition.
  • (ii) India advocated for adherence to Common but Differentiated Responsibilities (CBDR-RC) in global forums such as UNFCCC, UNCCD, CBD, and UNEA. It emphasized the urgent need to scale up climate finance, noting that the proposed USD 300 billion per year by 2035 falls short of the USD 1.3 trillion needed.
  • (iii) India urged BRICS nations to actively engage in global sustainability initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) co-led by India and Sweden, and the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) initiated by India, to collectively accelerate climate action and sustainable development efforts.
