Hockey India 7th Annual Awards: Harmanpreet Singh and Savita Punia Win Hockey India Player of the Year Award.

In March 2025, Harmanpreet Singh, captain of the Indian Men's Hockey Team, was awarded the prestigious Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year 2024 in the men’s category at the Hockey India 7th Annual Awards 2024. The event was held at Le Meridien, Connaught Palace in New Delhi (Delhi). This is Harmanpreet's second Hockey India Player of the Year award (his first was in 2021).

- Meanwhile, Savita Punia, the former goalkeeper of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, was honored with the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year 2024 in the women’s category.
- This is her third Hockey India Player of the Year award (she won in 2022 and 2023). Both Harmanpreet and Savita received a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh as part of the Balbir Singh Sr. Award.

💡 Other Important Facts:

(i) This year, the Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award was given to the winning team of the 1975 Men's World Cup, along with a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh. The Indian Men's Hockey team, captained by Ajit Pal Singh, defeated Pakistan in the finals of the 1975 Hockey World Cup held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
(ii) Savita Punia was also named the Hockey India Baljit Singh Goalkeeper of the Year 2024 and received a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.
(iii) Prasar Bharati, the official broadcaster of the Hero Hockey India League 2024-25, received the Hockey India Jaman Lal Sharma Award for its significant contribution in expanding the league's reach both in India and internationally.
