India’s First Ferret Research Facility Inaugurated at THSTI, Haryana, to Boost Biomedical Innovation.

On February 3, 2025, Dr. Rajesh Gokhale, Director General (DG) of the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC) and Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T), inaugurated India’s first Ferret Research Facility at the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) Biotech Science Cluster, Faridabad, Haryana.

  • - This milestone marks a significant step in advancing biomedical research and innovation.
  • - The newly established THSTI Ferret Research Facility is a state-of-the-art center adhering to the highest safety and research standards.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) A new data platform, GARBH-INI-DRISHTI, was also launched under the GARBH-INi program, providing an extensive repository of clinical data, images, and biospecimens collected from over 12,000 pregnant women, newborns, and mothers.
  • (ii) To accelerate the transition of research into practical applications, THSTI signed a Technology Transfer Agreement (TTA) with Sundyota Numandis Probioceuticals Private Limited, an Ahmedabad (Gujarat)-based company, to facilitate the commercialization of THSTI’s innovative technologies.
