Government Unveils Bhu-Neer Portal to Regulate Groundwater Withdrawal Permits.

Union Minister Chandrakant Raghunath Patil, Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoSJ), digitally launched the newly developed "Bhu-Neer" portal during the closing ceremony of the 8th edition of India Water Week (IWW) 2024, held from 17-20 September 2024 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi.

  • - The Bhu-Neer portal is an advanced platform for efficient groundwater regulation across the country. It was developed by the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA), under MoJS, in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
  • - The portal serves as a one-stop platform for managing and regulating groundwater resources, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in groundwater usage.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) Bhu-Neer is an upgraded version of the previous NOC to Abstract Ground Water (NOCAP) system.
  • (ii) The portal includes user-friendly features such as a Permanent Account Number (PAN)-based single ID system and Quick Response (QR)-coded No Objection Certificates (NOCs), making the process fully digital and faceless.
  • (iii) The portal is accessible to the public, enabling project proposers to use it for groundwater withdrawal-related queries, tracking application status, clarifications, and payment of statutory charges.
