MOST launches Operation Dronagiri with GDI, marking a milestone in the National Geospatial Policy.

On 13th November 2024, The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) launched Operation Dronagiri, a pilot project under the National Geospatial Policy (NGP) 2022 to illustrate the possible applications of geospatial technologies and innovations in improving the quality of life of citizens and ease of doing business.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), launched the project at the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
  • - Operation Dronagiri is an effort of DST in advancing geospatial data, developing geospatial infrastructure, geospatial skills and knowledge, as well as standards in executing the policy.
  • - The Geospatial Data Sharing Interface (GDI), launched alongside Operation Dronagiri, plays a crucial role in supporting the initiative by enabling seamless data sharing, access, and analysis. It enhances applications in urban planning, environmental monitoring, disaster management, and other sectors, driving efficient decision-making and geospatial integration.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) In Phase 1 of Operation Dronagiri, pilot projects will launch in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, showcasing geospatial data and technology integration in Agriculture, Livelihoods, Logistics, and Transport sectors.
  • (ii) Several government departments, industries, corporates, and startups will collaborate in the first phase to implement it on a national level.
  • (iii) The activities under Operation Dronagiri will be overseen by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (IITTNIF).
