National | Dated: 06 Nov 2024 The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare (DoPPW), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (MoPPGP), stated that Central Government Pensioners turning 80 are eligible for an additional pension. 🎯 Key Highlights: - On 18th October 2024, the DoPPW released an office memorandum outlining the detailed guidelines on additional pensions for pensioners turning 80. - As per the provisions of Sub Rule 6 of Rule 44 of Central Civil Services (CCS) (Pension) Rules 2021 [erstwhile Rule 49(2-A) of CCS (Pension) Rules 1972], after completion of eighty years of age or above by a retired Government servant, an additional pension or compassionate allowance is admissible under the rules. - A compassionate pension is a special allowance granted by the government to an employee or their family in cases such as the employee's death (including by suicide) while in service, retirement on medical grounds before age 55 (or 57 for former Group 'D' government servants), or if the employee's disablement or death is linked to their government service. 💡 Other Important Facts: (i) The additional pension or compassionate allowance will be disbursed as follows: 20% of the basic pension for individuals aged 80 to less than 85 years, 30% for those aged 85 to less than 90 years, 40% for individuals aged 90 to less than 95 years, and 50% for those aged 95 to less than 100 years.
