MoEFCC has declared Namdapha National Park and Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh as Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ).

The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has designated Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve and Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve, located in Changlang and Lohit districts of Arunachal Pradesh, as Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ).

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - This designation is an important step to conserve the fragile ecosystems of Arunachal Pradesh. It aims to enhance efforts to protect these natural areas and their biodiversity for future generations.
  • - Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve is one of India’s largest and most biologically diverse protected areas in the Eastern Himalayas. It was designated as a Tiger Reserve by the government in 1983, making it the 15th Tiger Project in India.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The ESZ status is designed to preserve the rich biodiversity and unique landscapes of these areas, providing a Safety armor against harmful human activities and supporting conservation in the Eastern Himalayas.
  • (ii) India has over 600 ESZs declared across various states.
  • (iii) Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary was designated as a sanctuary in 1989 and is named after the Kamlang River that flows through it.
