The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued guidelines to implement the ₹500 crore 'Innovative Projects' component under the Prime Minister (PM)-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

  • - This initiative aims to promote the adoption of solar energy, especially ensuring affordable access for low-income and marginalized households in India.
  • - The Scheme Implementation Agency (SIA) for this component is the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), based in Gurugram (Haryana), which is an autonomous institute under the MNRE.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) Innovative Solar Projects: The scheme supports innovative solar energy projects that introduce new technologies or business models for residential use, with a maximum project duration of 18 months.
  • (ii) The scheme has an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore and is to be implemented till FY 2026-27.
  • (iii) Annual Innovation Awards: Annual awards will be given to encourage innovation in rooftop solar energy. In this, the first prize will be ₹1 crore, second prize will be ₹50 lakh, third prize will be ₹30 lakh and 10 consolation prizes will be ₹5 lakh each.
