On October 16, 2024, Omar Abdullah, who is 54 years old and the Vice President of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), was officially sworn in as the new Chief Minister (CM) of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). This marks his second term as CM.

  • - He is the first CM of UT J&K since the Indian government revoked Article 370 in 2019.
  • - Alongside him, Surinder Kumar Choudhary was sworn in as the Deputy CM of UT J&K.

  • (i) Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), administered the oath of office and secrecy to Omar Abdullah and his five Council of Ministers during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, J&K.
  • (ii) The JKNC-INC alliance won the elections by securing "48 out of 90 assembly seats. The JKNC (Jammu & Kashmir National Conference) became the single largest party with "42 seats, winning "35 seats in the Kashmir Valley" and "7 seats in the Jammu division. Its alliance partner, the INC (Indian National Congress), won "6 seats".
