INS Talwar has arrived in South Africa to participate in IBSAMAR VIII.

On October 6, 2024, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Talwar, a frontline stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at Simon's Town in South Africa to take part in the 8th edition of the India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime Exercise (IBSAMAR VIII), a joint multinational naval exercise involving the navies of India, Brazil, and South Africa.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The trilateral maritime exercise, which began on October 6, 2024, will continue until October 18, 2024.
  • - The objective of the exercise is to enhance interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the navies of the three countries.
  • - This exercise takes place just prior to the upcoming 2024 BRICS Summit in Russia.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) The 7th edition of IBSAMAR was conducted at Port Gqeberha (formerly known as Port Elizabeth) in South Africa in 2022.
  • (ii) The exercise focuses on Blue Water Naval Warfare, encompassing both Surface and Anti-Air Warfare dimensions.
  • (iii) INS Talwar (F40), commissioned into the Indian Navy on June 18, 2003, is part of the Western Fleet based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, under the Western Naval Command. The ship is currently commanded by Captain Jithu George.
