GRSE has delivered INS Nirdeshak, the second of four survey vessels to the Indian Navy.

On 8th October 2024, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Limited, based in Kolkata (West Bengal), delivered the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Nirdeshak (Yard 3026) to the Indian Navy. This ship is the second of four large survey vessels (SVL) being built for the navy.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - The design is overseen by the Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy and is constructed at GRSE's headquarters in Kolkata. The SVL ships are designed and built following the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping by GRSE.
  • - In December 2023, GRSE Limited delivered the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sandhayak (Yard 3025), the first of the four Survey Vessel Large (SVL) ships, to the Indian Navy.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) In 2018, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and GRSE Limited signed a contract to build four Survey Vessel Large (SVL) ships for a total cost of ₹2,435 crores.
  • (ii) In February 2024, the Indian Navy commissioned INS Sandhayak, the first of the four SVL ships, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
