The Uttar Pradesh government declared November 25 as "No Non-Veg Day" on the birth anniversary of sadhu TL Vaswani, who advocated a vegetarian lifestyle. āThe birth anniversary of those great men of our country who propounded the principle of ānon-violenceā is celebrated as āNon-Violenceā Day. Like we celebrate Mahavir Jayanti, Buddha Jayanti, Gandhi Jayanti and Sadhu TL Vaswani Jayanti. All slaughter houses and meat shops will remain closed on that day,ā said a letter issued by Dharmendra Pratap Singh, special secretary in UP. The government addressed all District Magistrates (DMs), Divisional Commissioners, Municipal Corporation Commissioners and other senior officials of the state. Sadhu Thanvardas Leelaram Vaswani, the educationist who started the Mira Movement, was born in a Sindhi family in Hyderabad Sindh (now in Pakistan). She raised her voice for the education and liberation of women in the country.
