Every year, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is celebrated to create awareness about the ways we can come together to stop violence. International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is celebrated every year on 25 November. In 1979, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women but violence against women was still rampant. In 2008, steps were taken to raise public awareness and policy-making to end violence against women. Since 1981, women's rights activists have been observing November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
