He has authored more than 90 books, including travelogues and fiction for children. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1989 for his novel Manabajamina and became afellow of the Sahitya Akademi in 2021.Bengali writer and novelist, ShirshendhuMukhopadhyay (87), has been honoured withthe Kuvempu Rashtriya Puraskar 2023 by the Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Trust.
The award recognises the litterateurs who had contributed to any language recognised by the constitution of India.
The award includes a cash award of Rs 5 lakh, a silver medal and a citation
The annual award was instituted in 2013 as a tribute to the late Kannada poet Kuvempu
