A new species of gecko has been discovered in the Western Ghats near Rajapalayam in Viridhunagar district of Tamil Nadu.

Cnemaspis rashidi is a species of diurnal, rock-dwelling, insectivorous lizard found in India. It has been reported from the Western Ghats of India and this species is found in Kottamalai near Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu, South India. It is one of 94 species described in the genus Cnemaspis. It is known as Rashid's dwarf gecko because it is the smallest species in the genus Cnemaspis. The back part of the body attracts yellow, white and black colors. Total length from snout to vent is 2 inches. Rashid's dwarf lizard is found at an altitude of 1245 meters MSL. Amit Sayyed, senior scientist at the Wildlife Conservation and Research Society, Maharashtra, who led a team of researchers from different parts of the country named the previously unknown species as Cenemaspis rashidi after his father Professor Rashid Sayyed.
