Madhya Pradesh notifies 'Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve' as its 7th Tiger Sanctuary

Madhya Pradesh, home to the largest population of tigers in the country, has got a new protected area for big cats called Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve, the seventh in the state. MP retained the status of tiger state in the 2022 census and the number of big cats in the state increased from 526 in 2018 to 785. Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve has become the seventh tiger reserve of Madhya Pradesh. The tiger reserve covers about 1,414 square kilometers in the core area and 925.12 square kilometers in the buffer zone, the official said.
