India and Italy sign Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement to facilitate movement of workers, students

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, after holding a wide-ranging and fruitful meeting with his counterpart Antonio Tajani, has signed the Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement between India and Italy to enable seamless movement of workers, students and professionals. "Discussions were held on deepening our strategic partnership. It was agreed that opportunities should be explored in agri-tech, innovation, space, defense and digital domains," the External Affairs Minister wrote on Twitter. Jaishankar said, Appreciated Italy's support for our initiative and its presidency of the G20." "At the end of our talks, the Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement and the Cultural Exchange Program were signed," he said. With a population of around 1,80,000, the Indian diaspora in Italy is the third largest in Europe after Britain and the Netherlands. Primarily first-generation immigrants, most are employed in sectors such as agriculture, dairy farming, leather industry, construction and service sectors.
