Former India captain and great spinner Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on October 23. He was 77 years old. Born in Amritsar in 1946, Bedi played 67 Tests for India and took 266 wickets, which included 14 five-wicket hauls and once 10-wicket haul. He was part of the golden quartet of spinners of Indian cricket along with Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar and Srinivas Venkataraghavan who remained the centerpiece of India's bowling unit for more than a decade between 1966 and 1978. He played for the national team in 22 Test matches and also captained it. Bedi used to wear colorful patka and was always known for his outspoken and clear views on cricketing matters. He received the Padmashree award in 1970 and the C.K. Got the award. Naidu was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
