Global Media and Information Literacy Week observed 23-25 October 2023
International
The twelfth edition of Global Media and Information Literacy Week includes a conference co-organized by UNESCO and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan under the theme "Media and Information Literacy in the Digital Space" on 23–25 October. It was attended by representatives of government, civil society, media practitioners, academicians, youth and other relevant stakeholders. UNESCO strives to equip youth with media and information literacy and digital competencies, enhance their abilities to access and verify information and media content, and better harness the power of technology. When empowered, youth can become critical thinkers who can make informed choices about peacebuilding, equality, freedom of expression, dialogue, access to information and participation in sustainable development. They can also become peer-teachers, and co-leaders in media and information literacy development, as well as co-creators of tools and resources. Media and information literate youth can contribute to increasing media and information literacy in the digital sphere.
