With nearly 96% of the votes counted in Sunday's vote, election officials said Mr. Noboa received 52.2% of the vote. , while Luisa González, a leftist lawyer and ally of exiled former President Rafael Correa, received 47.8% of the vote. Ecuador's youngest elected president, Daniel Noboa, faced on Monday the practically impossible task of curtailing a horrific, drug-induced crime wave within very short 1 1/2 years in office. Daniel Noboa, 35, is the heir to Ecuador's greatest fortune, thanks to a global empire built on the country's main crop – bananas.
