In collaboration with health care professionals and patient groups around the world, the World celebrates 15 November as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day.
Important Days
The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), in collaboration with health care professionals and patient groups around the world, celebrates 15 November as World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day. COPD is a preventable and treatable disease that causes breathing problems. The theme of World COPD Day 2023 is “Breathing is Life – Act First”. Common symptoms of COPD include chronic cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, fatigue, frequent respiratory infections, unexpected weight loss, and difficulty performing daily activities. The primary risk factors for COPD are cigarette and beedi smoking. Occupational exposure Long-term exposure to workplace pollutants and irritants such as dust, chemicals, and smoke can increase the risk of developing COPD. Indoor air pollution The use of biomass fuels (such as cow dung cakes, coal, and wood) for cooking and heating in poorly ventilated spaces can lead to indoor air pollution, which may increase the risk of COPD.
