Safina Hussain, founder of 'Educate Girls', has become the first Indian woman to win the US$5 lakh WISE Prize for bringing 1.4 million out-of-school girls in Indian villages back into mainstream education. The award, presented by Qatar Foundation at the 11th edition of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) summit in Doha earlier this week, is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of education. "Sixteen years ago, when 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' was unheard of, I decided to set up an NGO, Educate Girls, to bring school drop-out girls back into mainstream education.
