International Day of the Girl Child observed on 11 October 2023 to invest in girls' rights

Organized by UNICEF and Plan International, the 2023 program aims to unite adolescent girls with advocates for their rights, including UN leaders, NGOs, businesses and governments. The program showcases a world where girls actively influence government policies, business practices and research priorities. Global commitment and specific funding is needed to standardize this approach. This year, at a time when we are seeing a variety of movements and actions that undermine the rights of girls and women and undermine progress on gender equality, we are seeing a particularly harsh impact on girls. From maternal health care and parenting support for teen mothers to digital and life skills training; From comprehensive sexuality education to survivor support services and violence prevention programs; There is a need for urgent attention and resources to key areas that enable girls to realize their rights and achieve their full potential.
